I

n my very last article, of a few days ago, I note that the”Sunne” and renaissance consciousness and mythic identification all, in a sense, came to roost in the Phoenix’s Nest, to pun on Lord Oxford’s book of that name in 1583. And I quote rare sources for this matter in the eminent mythography, Micea Elide’s work.  All this in specific reference to Lord Oxford, and his psychical and poetical and linguistic affinities regarding heavenly and earthly processes of mankind’s fate and consciousness—in the matter before us as the “Phoenix.” 

It is this writer’s thesis, detailed in a number of articles, that specifically, by 1592, Lord Oxford had launched, or participated in launching, a campaign of publications works to disseminate, in coded form, the facts of Lord Oxford’s true biography as “Shakespeare” and other major writers of his time, i.e., “Ignoto,” “Anomos,” etc.).  In the poem “Love” he adopted the symbol of the Phoenix as his own living mythic-incarnation, as a tool, to use to communicate his true identity—not only to his own times, but to all times!  

Indeed, I just published and posted my penetration of Lord Oxford’s “identification” with the PhOEnix and the codes he used for that business. I did that, as said, for Easter, and the next day I was merely going to post what I had mostly already written  below, which follows. 

A Fateful Moment 

I had seen on Face Book as posting by Bastian Conrad whom, I presume, is a Marlowe advocate judging by the subject matter of his Face Book website. I had seen, on passing, about a week previously, his posting the text and images of Polimanteia. I had long ago dealt as much as I wanted too with the Marlowe issue of Shakespeare authorship, so I would ordinarily have passed it by. But, I have a question concerning Marlowe and Venus and Adonis and the historical record, which I hoped to ask him about.  So, two days before Easter I glanced into  Polimanteia. Mostly, because it displayed prominently the date of the book, 1595. I did not read any of his comments on the subject. I only wanted to see what the original document showed.  

The Phoenix Campaign of 1592, Confirmed 

My thesis, as said, involves Lord Oxford launching a “Phoenix Campaign” as I refer to it, and I challenged that a tight group of poetic works could be compared from 1592 [LO’s poem “Love” where LO first adopts the “Phoenix” identity to -1601 with publication of Shakespeare’s The Phoenix and the Turtle”]—and intervening other works, as well. These dates, of course, coincide with Venus and Adonis (1593), Lucrece (1594) and other relevant works—all claimed by me to be by Lord Oxford (certainly not all of the verses in those various poetry books but key ones) involving his Phoenix campaign.  

 These claims are fully registered in my posted, public work, so I’ll not dwell on it here. The point, the book Polimanteia was published in 1595—so I decided to take a quick look to see if there’s a “Phoenix” mentioned anywhere in it. I made a Pdf search. Nothing, I thought I would probably find something. I was a bit dismayed, but encouraged myself with the thought of how many times, I’ve searched indexes, exhibits, etc., and frequently not found needed items or research—  which sometimes were in the volumes—but one had to make the search. That’s what due diligence is for.  

I was too busy to deal with it at the time. I was preoccupied with my Easter article. Still, I couldn’t wait to get back to it—because, even after only an hour or so I was able to speed much of it (some at 2,500 wpm), I was stunned by what I saw! 

I was virtually instantly positive, almost certain it must have been by Lord Oxford. But, I’ve learned not to believe everything I think. Imagine, when, Easter over, a day or two of rest. Then I went back to the book.  And, again, only after much speed reading, when I paused to be careful, I noted that there was a little yellow flame at the bottom of the Pdf page. It was a page indicator, showing that I had a reference to the “Phoenix” waiting for me! I was amazed! I just missed seeing it.  

I hoped and assumed that a book emanating from the University of Cambridge in 1595 must-might have something to do with Lord Oxford and, if it did, it just might give me evidence for the Phoenix Campaign!  When the “Phoenix Campaign” becomes known, there are thousands of objects that might, and will be “found out”—enough to astound yet the world—if the world is not too corrupt and cowardly to accept the treasure trOvE.

The above is from Polimantaie, allegedly written by a “William Covell.” The reader will see above, another of my many examples of how easily Lord Oxford’s prose writing, just as above (only the line breaks and a comma or two are added), are converted to verse—so susceptible to “verse” conversion are the words because he is a natural poet, and language is composed of words moving in rhythms, in sync with his thinking processes—even with his very breath and being]. 

The above, I feature, for it is what I anticipated I should find in a book written in 1595, if it had anything to do with Lord Oxford. As my work well documents, I’ve placed my “bet” on the table. In my scheme, as said, is the fact that Lord Oxford in 1592, with publication of the poem “Love” launched a “PhOEnix” campaign to keep his True Memory alive—in the mythic existence of the PhOEnix.  

And I go on to show, how over the immediately following years (1593. 1594, 1595, 1598, etc., he implements a campaign whereby he hides his Cipher-Self in his Eulogies and Epitaphs and Elegies of Sir Philip Sidney wherein he planted his codes to his cipher which reveals he is, in reality, the OnE, at the VERy heart of the PhOEnix! The Eternal SOlE, OnEly Bird of Eternity—whose code name of OE.

Fact of Record

Throughout Polimanteria, just as I described in my previous papers, as being true of Lord Oxford, its author over and over and over again, entreats his readers to get and read the poems of praise dedicated to the great Phoenix Sidney! Without further documentation, I offer into the record, all the indicated references in the book itself to Sidney (or any slight variance in the spelling of his name).  All my previously posted related articles, at blog “Sounding. . .” at ericmillerworks.com. My blog “Soundings. . .” articles on this subjected are incorporated herein, by reference. 

Polimanteria was published in 1595. In 1592, as said the Phoenix campaign was launched in the poem “Love.” In 1593, the famous “The Phoenix Nest” was published, and following that, in 1594 Arbor of Amorous Devises, in 1595, Spenser’s Astrophel, 1595 –all these publications prominently featured elegies, epitaphs, and eulogies by various writers (Sidney is the main poet) but most notably by one person, always unknown, whom I know to be Lord Oxford.  

I go beyond, and show that in 1601 he wrote his immortal Epitaph to his own death as the PhOEnix, in the poem called, by “Shakespeare” “The Phoenix and the Turtle.” I document that those who participated in that “appendix” of famous writers knew that Lord Oxford was Shakespeare. I have numerous articles of these matters, already made available to the public, for free.  

So onely without compare, eternally should you live: for in your children shall the love-writing muse of divine Sidney, and the pure flowing stream of Chrystallin Spenser survive onely:  write then of Elizas raigne, a tasty onely meete for so rare a pen: it is easy to give immortality to an ever-living Empress: or if this be matter, which the baseness of these worthless times would hardly prefer trifles, (a thing sufficient to accuse this age of treason). . .honor him sweet daughters children, who living honored you: and control with the muses pen the ripening fates, so far as give him immortality, and cause him live to despite them.  

Thus weep you for famous Sidney, my brave soldier : and men Hon. are only fit to be mourned for by your Muses: which if being made sorrowful they require larger matter to mourn for. Then name but Hatton.  . .

On Interpreting Code Names—In Greek! 

“But those that more curiously sutleize upon the Egyptological say that to devines properly to fortell and forsee things. . ."
 “He caused the Greek alphabet written to be put by distinct letter into the group where the Cock scraped the Barley. . . Now it happened that the Cock bared four letters  Φ Ε Ο Δ yet now likewise he remained uncertain of the name which these letters should portend, to discern whether it Theodofius, or Theodotus, Theodorus, or Theodectes.” The above Greek letters, in fact, spell THEO.

 [Off of the right margin he speaks of a  “a Foolish proofe.” He speaks of “the doubt of that name which those four letters might portend:”

 More Evidence of Cipher & Names & OE

 Φοίνιξ = Phoenix, again we have Φ (lower case φ)

 Lord Oxford name, in Greek, begins with the letters OE and the pronunciation:  Oxford = Οξφόρδη,  pronounced, "Oxfordie"

 Another Message in Greek?

 We read in Polimantaie, from our poet author, that an oracle found in Greece under “the shadow of the word [i.e., cipher of the word] Φως , which signifyeth both man and light, if the accent be not rightly placed.”  [and in the margin he has the character “Φως , man, light.”  Above, also in the right margin is written “Ambiguitie in oracles”—where it speaks of the “shadowe of the word, Φως .

Other than the word shadOwE contains Oxford’s code.

 There is, I feel, something more to be deduced from the Greek, but I have not the knowledge to do so.  

 Strange Misstatements--Code?

 We read:  

 “Master Bodin. . .in his 4th Book of Commonwealth, who for the great conjunction of the yere 1584 was bold to prognosticate the second coming of the sonne of God in his glorious majesty.”

 This is Wrong! The Great Conjunction was was April 23, 1583. This is not a difference calendars. I made a specific study of the Great Conjuction of 1583, published in The Oxfordian, Vol. IX 2006, wherein, from orginal records, I revealed the importance of this date to Lord Oxford. I wrote:

 The beginning of 1583 was greeted with news that the most momentous even in modern history was about to happen—the end of the world and the Second Coming of Christ. As predicted by Richard Harvey [personally known to Lord Oxford, and especially his elder brother, Gabriel, a famous figure is the Oxford saga].

The author of Polimantaie, Lord Oxford, writes even that, his source, Master Bodin:
“in his 4th Book of Commonwealth, who for the great conjunction of the yere 1584 was bold to prognosticate the second coming of the sonne of God in his glorious majesty.”

 Research confirms the claim for the year 1584—not that I can find it in Master Bodin’s 4th Book , but elsewhere. Others, too, also made the same claim for 1584, but the 1583 event was the “first” in an immediate time range, with others coming for nearby succeeding years.

 Certainly, Lord Oxford did not mention the more famous event of 1583, when the brother of one of his “enemies,” Gabriel Harvey’s brother made himself a fool by claiming the immediate end of the world April 28th, 1583.

 Also noted in the margin: Ridiculous fears so in the years 1588”

 Yet, in the context, I would note that in my analysis of Sonnet 103, I show showed Lord Oxford was profoundly influenced by the event of 1583, as he was under house arrest. So, in that regard his remark below in Polimantaie is interesting:

 “Yet I rely not so far upon Astrological reason [for his own fears of the future], as upon the strange star of 1572, the Comets that have appeared since: the great thunder of 1584, the terrible earthquake, the first of March of the same year.. .the strange inundations long since. . .”  

Polimanteia Quotes Ovid:

 Ovid is quoted by the author pursuant to these remarks of his: “By means whereof, he maintains it or things impossible either to measure the height of Heaven above or the depth of the earth below—according to the testimony of Jeremiah.

 Or cow of Bull, if it be, it cannot be well known
The former parts are seen, the hinder are not shown.

 Vacca sit on Taures non est cognas promptury
Pas Prioir apparent, posterira latent.”

Note the excellent of the translation, given by Lord Oxford above in English.

 The word “Phoenix” begins with Φ and end with an ξ. Lord Oxford grandfather used the letter in his signature: Φxenford, apparently routinely!



Θεός = God

Οξφόρδη = Oxford

Φως = Light

Φοίνιξ = Phoenix

Φοίνιξ –όπως = Phoenix-like
